About Uplao

A Small Village In The North Of Laos And A Dutch Guy Ready To Change His Life…

After witnessing the disrupting effects of the ever expanding plantation agriculture in northern Laos, UpLao was created: leading the way to a sustainable future. A plan to diversify rural economies and create alternative, more sustainable livelihood opportunities for the upland communities in northern Laos.

To provide sustainable agricultural and economic alternatives to local minority communities in northern Lao

In 2013 Sandor Scheers left the Netherlands and moved to Luang Namtha, Laos. He had worked previously with the Dutch Government but it was time for something different. After witnessing the unsustainable agricultural monocropping plantations and lack of economic diversity in the rural villages. Sandor has to act.

Upon learning of the successful Thai coffee production and after subsequent visits, he learned that this high value crop could be replicated in northern Laos.

Sustainable Coffee for a Sustainable Future

With your help

With the start of Uplao's work in Laos, training of farmers, development of ecotourism, purchasing of coffee seedlings and preparing fields, Uplao looks to you for support.

Together we can create a sustainable diverse and prosperous future.
